The Butoku Kai, or Martial Virtues Association, has a long and illustrious history. As the martial education body officially affiliated with the government of Japan, it is an organization that has maintained the pursuit of the highest standards of excellence.
Our late master, O’Sensei Richard Kim, was appointed the international representative of the Dai Nippon & Zen Bei Butoku Kai (Greater Japan & North American Butoku Kai) by the emperor of Japan. He established traditional Asian martial arts over half a century in the USA, Canada, Europe, and South America. He was the only living graduate of the Budo Semmon Gaku, or Martial Arts College in Kyoto, which trained instructors in the most traditional Asian martial forms to the highest degree.
With over 30 years of training, Sensei Matthew Browman, currently a fifth degree black belt, travelled with and trained under O’Sensei Kim at various seminars, intensive training camps, and lectures annually for 15 years before O’Sensei passed in 2001.
